Welcome to Volume 2 of original
Jamaican SKA recordings from DERRICK MORGAN! The track
selections all date from the early to middle 1960’s and
encompass the slower tempo shuffle/R & B style of Ska from the
early 1960’s through to the fast uptempo Ska of the 1964 to 1965
period. The latter tracks on the album, from 1966, are from the
period when the Ska rhythm slowed and began to form the basic
beginnings of the Rock Steady era. Many rare tracks are
featured, in particular “We Are Suffering” & “Dinner for Two”,
which were very difficult to locate! A special bonus track, CD
only, has been included: ‘Telephone’, this is from 1963 and is a
particular favourite of Derrick’s. This track is in a slower R &
B / Soul style. We have many other fine original Ska recordings
from Derrick which were released on the album, Derrick Morgan –
Ska! Volume 1 (Reggae Retro RRTCD/LP 06) the tracks encompass
the same span of years as this volume. Also on catalog are a
fine selection or Rock Steady and early Reggae recordings
(1966-68) from Derrick - ‘Do The Beng Beng-Revisited’ (RRTCD 08)
and a selection of late 1960’s Reggae tracks (1968-1970) on the
album ‘Derrick – Top The Pop’ (Acl ACLCD/LP 2000)
